Looking for Gothic Tattoos
Permanent tattoos are done by injecting an indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin which creates a design later on. Tattoo came from the word "Tahitian" (tatu) which means to mark something. , no one knows how it began but there are claims that tattooing existed since 12,000 years BC.
There are different designs of tattoos one of them is gothic tattoo design and its purpose also varies in different cultures. Gothic tattoos started in late 1970's.
Religious design shows the ideals of the person to religion, this design is mostly cross in different styles; some cross designs has a skull and a flower that is encircled to it.
Another category is called the occult; this design is often related to witchcraft and the four elements which is the air, fire, water and earth.
Witchcraft, tarot, oracles pentacle which is the five pointed star, this is not showing evil, these are just ancient religion that existed before Christianity.
Real meaning and idea of this design is to enlighten the view of things such as death that this is a natural part of life and beauty, a deviation on what is touted as the ideal.
Gothic tattoo designs identify the wearer as a member of the gothic subculture. There are many different associations and stereotypes about gothic tattoos. Ankhs and gothic crosses are popular gothic tattoos.
The ankh is the Egyptian hieroglyph for "life," which is contrary to the gothic glamorization of death. Those who are aware and take the death preoccupation seriously will invert the ankh, as though to suggest the opposition to life.
Gothic crosses are typically heavily adorned, deliberate, and also exalt the beauty in death. Mythical creatures of gothic preoccupation are frequent subjects of gothic tattoos.
Thus a Gothic tattoo can be classified into two categories. They are:
1. Gothic fantasy art tattoos: Images like the dragon, fairies, and the like are a major part of 'Fantasy Tattoos'. These Gothic tattoos represent the interest and the beliefs of the people in medieval times. The images are inclined to be mythological and imaginary in nature.
2. Occult tattoos: This second category of Gothic tattoos deals with what may be called 'Occult'. These images are associated with white witchcraft also known as Wicca, the Viking Runes, The Tarot, and other magic craft and prophesy.
3. Wicca tattoos: Images like 'Pentacle' (the five-pointed star), the 'Athame' (a double-edged blade used for white witchcraft), and images related to the four elements (fire, water, earth and air) fall under it.
Gothic tattoo designs are limitless. If you identify as a member of the subculture, you can dream up just about anything. If you are simply expressing your individuality, the SKY IS THE LIMIT.
