WHAT IS CREATIVE IMAGINATION?
Creative imagination is a mental faculty that enables human beings to form images not present to the senses. It is the capacity to create mental images and visualize situations or conditions that have never actually been experienced. It is an essential element of creative power.
Creative imagination also allows you to formulate resourceful, ingenious, inventive and innovative solutions to problems.
Persons endowed with creative imagination have the ability to extract features of their experience and re-arrange them into new forms that result in inventions, discoveries or artistic creations.
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CREATIVE IMAGINATION AND MAGIC
There have been many remarkable and inexplicable incidents in the past that were once regarded as miraculous or magical. As scientific knowledge increased, these incidents were found to have a rational scientific basis. One has only to think of natural phenomena such as electricity, radio waves and television.
The human brain is capable of generating forces so powerful there are limitless possibilities. Every great discovery from the invention of the wheel by primitive man to present day space travel, originated in the human mind. In every instance these discoveries came about as a result of man's ability to use his imagination.
Creative imagination is responsible for new discoveries, marvels of engineering, and masterpieces of music, literature, painting and sculpture.
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN IMAGINATION AND MAGIC
The word "magic" is derived from the Greek word "magos" a magician. The ancient Persians used the term "Magus" with reference to members of a priestly caste believed to posses a deeper and more profound knowledge of nature.
It is interesting to note that the word "mage", an archaic term for a wide and learned person, was latter closely associated with the word "image", which is an idea or conception produced by a vivid imagination.
MYTHS, FAIRY TALES AND THE HUMAN IMAGINATION
Myths, fairy tales and parables, handed down from generation to generation, have often stirred and stimulated the human imagination and been directly responsible for the creation of visionary concepts.
The creative genius, Leonardo Da Vinci, who used o his fertile imagination to produce works of genius in so many fields, referred to a certain "Macchia", which has its origins in the word "image", as the "spot" which stimulated his imagination.
Da Vinci was also a pioneer in aeronautical engineering. He was inspired by the myth of Daedalus, the Greek artisan who designed two pairs of wings out of feather and wax for himself and his son Icarus.
