A Brief Insight into Quidditch
Quidditch is a sport played by some and watched by most in the wizarding world Harry Potter. It is described as the most popular, highly exhilarating and adrenaline rushing sport equivalent to the game of football played by non-magic people or Muggles. There are two ways to win. A team can either score the most points, or one of its members, called a Seeker can capture a small gold flying orb called the Snitch. The game is played in the air while riding broomsticks.
Quidditch matches are played while flying over a 500 feet long and 180 feet wide pitch or field. Located on both ends are three hooped goal posts of different heights. Successfully putting the playing ball, called a Quaffle through one of the hooped goals is equivalent to ten points. The Quaffle is spherical in shape, red in color and is enchanted so it falls very slowly through the air to prevent players from constantly diving for it. There are also two sturdy iron balls called Bludgers that float in the game field. With the help of two players carrying bats, these Bludgers are directed at the opponent to try an knock them off their brooms. The Snitch is the last element of the sports. It is a small golden ball approximately the size of a walnut. It is winged and like the earlier two, is also enchanted to hover and dart around the playing field.
Each team is comprised of seven players, each with three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker. The Chasers' role is to attempt to score goals on their opponent's goal hoops by passing the Quaffle around. The Keeper will be the one who will protect the goal hoops and the Beaters will be the ones to hit the Bludgers either towards opponents. Finally, the Seeker's main role is to chase down and capture the Snitch. Whoever catches the Snitch is usually the winner as it ends the game and is worth one hundred fifty points.
