Are you looking for unique cat names? As a cat lover, I know that choosing the perfect name for your cat is not an easy task. Most cat lovers want to give their cats a unique, yet easy to pronounce, name. So how do you select the right name for kitty? Where do you go for inspiration? You can certainly check the Internet. There are lots of cat sites out there devoted to cat and kitten names. There are also books and even e-books on this topic. You could spend a great deal of time going over the hundreds (even thousands) of names found in these sources.

But what if you don't have enough time (or energy for that matter)? You could always just pick the first name that comes to mind. But I'm pretty sure this won't do for most cat lovers. Especially is you are looking for a name that is out-of-the-ordinary.

So what do you do? Where do you start? Here are several suggestions to help you in your search. The first is to consider your cat's individual characteristics and your personal preferences. But don't stop there. Here are six sources of inspiration:

If you are looking for a popular, current name consider the names of celebrities. Politicians, actors and singers fall under this category. Some names off the top of my head include Paris, Nicky, Angie, Brad, Abe, Winston, Madeleine (Albright), Rhianna, and Jonas - just to name a few.

Looking for a magical name? Consider the names of magical creatures and mythical heroes. Ideas include Daphne (from Greek myth), Clio (a muse), Nereid (a sea nymph), Angel, Seraphim, Cherub, Fay, Fairy, Phoenix and Pixie.  For heroic names, consider mythical heroes, heroines and places, such as Ulysses, Penelope, Troy, Helen, Olympus, and Olympia.

Okay, if magic is not your thing and want something down to earth then add a little bit of Latin flavor.  Habla español? Even if you don't, consider Spanish names, including Antonio, Benito, Beto, Pepe, Tito, Tomas, Luz, Flor, Ana, Luna, Estela, and Alma. You may also want to consider names in other languages as well as names of countries and cities.   

Other sources of inspiration include the names of fruits, flowers, and plants. This category provides you with lots of ideas. Consider Blueberry, Blackberry, Bananas, Mango, Peach, Cinnamon, Buttercup, Rose, Violet, and Olive.  

Certainly, our kitties are truly precious to us and they deserve a shiny name, so for them consider the names of jewels, such as Diamond, Ruby, Esmeralda (Emerald in Spanish), Pearl, Amethyst, Opal, Onyx, Gem, and Garnet. Maybe you can think of more!   

Still need more inspiration? Consider food and drink. Here are some yummy ideas: Cupcake, Pepsi, Brandy, Candy, Lollipop, Tootsie, Chip, Nacho, and Cookie.

I hope these categories have given you plenty of ideas. And here's a bonus idea:

Aristocats.  This movie is a beloved Disney classic and it gives you several cat name ideas. Some of the Aristocats names are: Duchess, Marie, Berlioz, Toulouse, and Thomas O'Malley. You can also consider the names of the other characters, including, Amelia and Abigail (the friendly and talkative lady geese), and Napoleon the hound dog.
