Persian Fairy Floss – The Adults Sweet Delight
Many fond memories are created during our childhoods. Often they are things you don't get to enjoy as an adult and we remember with melancholy the days when we were young. Going to a carnival or a show is one of the most enjoyable events for children to experience and with this comes the tasty delights of sweets and treats. There are very few adults that would say they never tried, and loved, fairy floss when they were young. The beautiful sweet flavours dissolving on your tongue is a memory never to be forgotten. Thankfully, adults still can experience the joy of such a sweet delight in the form of Persian fairy floss.
Sweet beginnings.
Persian fairy floss, also known as Pashmak, came from Yazd, an Iranian city that was renowned for its large variety of traditional Persian sweets. Baghlava and Ghotab are also loved sweets from this city. The particular sweet treat we know as Persian fairy floss was given its name because it resembled sheep's wool. In Persian, Pashm (meaning wool) and ak (a resemblance suffix) combined to create the name Pashmak, "wool-like". A popular myth was that Persian fairy floss was made with the use of ant spit however thankfully, this is not the case.

Persian fairy floss is commonly used for decorating cakes, desserts, fruits, puddings and ice creams but can also be enjoyed on its own. It is made from sugar and sesame oil so as well as a divine sweet flavour, although not as sweet as traditional fairy floss, it also boasts a very pleasant nutty taste that is one of a kind. If you are planning to use Persian fairy floss as a garnish or accompaniment to your dessert, be sure to use as close to serving as possible. This delectable sweet is fragile and once the pack is opened and the contents exposed to air it will collect moisture, bead up and begin to disappear. For good measure, and to avoid disappointment, open no more than 20 minutes before serving. This divine sweet delicacy comes in five wonderful flavours. Rose, pistachio and saffron are flavours for the more adventurous taste buds but also available are the traditional, but still delectable flavours, vanilla and chocolate.
