Beginner's Tips for Baccarat

Baccarat is a popular casino royal card game. The game of Baccarat is usually with eight complete decks of cards. The game is between players. The main participants of the game of Baccarat are player and banker. The player with the most money is the banker and not necessarily any casino employee.

A beginner should essentially be familiar with the value of the playing cards in the game of Baccarat.

Values of cards:

Ace - 1

2 through 9 are at face value

Ten - 0

Jack - 0

Queen - 0

King - 0

How to Play Baccarat

The banker is normally the player with the most money. Before beginning to play, players choose the banker among themselves. The banker holds the shoe. Shoe contains all the game cards. The banker deals the cards from the shoe.

The player’s and the banker’s hands receive three hands of two face down cards each. These hands refer to a player on either side of the banker and the banker himself. Players turn over the cards and the croupier, normally casino dealer, calls the cards. Sometimes you can also call for a card.

Types of Bets

You place bets before dealing of virtual casino cards. There are three types of bets in a game of Baccarat. These are betting on player’s hand, banker’s hand, or a tie. When a player bets ‘banco’, it refers to all the funds in the bank. Therefore, all other bets become null. Normally players bet on the banker’s hand only. The shoe remains with the banker as long as the banker’s hand is the winner of the game. If the banker’s hand loses the bet, shoes passes to the next player. This player is now the banker. You can then choose to keep the shoe or pass it on.

Facts behind the Bets

Among the different bets in the game of baccarat, players normally bet on the banker’s hand. This is because of the low house advantage of 1.06%. Player’s hand has a house advantage of 1.24%. However, the casinos do not allow you to reap benefits of the house advantage on the banker’s hand. If you win your banker’s hand bets, you need to pay 5% commission to the casino. Casinos impose commission similar to a tax. Even after paying the commission, you gain over 0.19% of house advantage over the player’s bet. Besides, banker’s hand wins frequently in most Baccarat games.

Players do not bet on the outcome of a tie in a game of Baccarat. The odds for a tie as the outcome of the game are eight to one. Therefore, there are very little chances of the outcome being a tie. Hence, the house advantage of a tie stands at a huge 14%.

Aim of the Game

The main aim of the game is to achieve a hand closest to nine with two or three cards in a hand. This is the winning hand. If the total of cards in a hand goes into double digits, you do not consider the first digit. Instead, only the second digit appears as the card total. Therefore, if the total of the cards in your hand is 14, effectively your card total is only 4. Hands in the game of Baccarat do not bust or go over the card total as in other card games.

The Best Hands

If the first two dealt cards total a nine, you have the perfect hand or a natural hand. This is also popular as a natural nine. The next best combination is to have a hand with the first two dealt cards totaling eight. This is a natural eight. A natural hand automatically wins the game unless of course there is a tie. Only a natural nine can beat a natural eight.

In case of a tie, all bets become null other than the bet on a tie. Normally, if your card total is one card less than a natural, you can take another face-up card saying ‘carte.’ Otherwise, you can stand by saying ‘none’. Ideally, you should draw another card at a score of four or less than that and stand on a score of six or seven.

Winning at Baccarat

Players try to adopt many winning baccarat systems to improve their game performance. Casinos give cards and pencils to note down your game history. However, there is no truth in such game history. Cards from the shoe appear at random and therefore, you cannot predict any special outcome by looking through card history.

Card counting is not an effective strategy in the game of Baccarat. You cannot count the cards in a shoe effectively as the number of used cards put back into the shoe far exceeds the number of cards drawn from the shoe. Besides, you cannot change your bets midway through a game of Baccarat. Therefore, card counting does not give you any special advantage.

The probability of a win of any hand is equal. All the outcomes have an equal chance of appearing. Therefore, winning and losing odds have a 50-50 probability. If the outcome of a game of Baccarat has been the banker’s hand over the last ten times, there is no assurance of an eleventh win of the banker’s hand or appearance of the player’s hand as a win this time. You can try for such probability theory to work in your favor in the end. However, these theories do not stand any chance in the short run. Therefore, the best way to beat the baccarat system is to quit the game while winning.

You can have the best chances of a win in the game of Baccarat by choosing a game with as many few decks as possible. Betting on the banker is the best. However, look for casinos charging less than 5% commission on banker’s bets. Always play your games according to your bankroll and do not increase your bets on a loss while hoping for an eventual win. Baccarat is a game of chance and therefore, strategies, systems, or other superstitions and myths do not have any role to play in the outcome of the game.
