Lights as an Important Factor for a Bearded Dragon
In the native natural habitat of bearded dragons they spend a lot of their time basking under the sun. In the whole entire life of bearded dragons, basking is an import this ectothermic characteristic, the body heat they are having come from an external source. The sun emitsuv light, specifically bearded dragons depends mostly ant aspect that supports the body's need First and foremost, they do this for several reasons.
The rays of the sun warm the body of the bearded dragon; they have on the UVB rays, it is essential to produce Vitamin D. If UVB light is missing the bearded dragon's body cannot get the needed Vitamin D from the foods they eat. Health related illnesses and disease might now occur.
In captivity, proper lighting for your pet beardies is a must. Without proper lighting, bearded dragons will not live longer. Even though the lights you have inside the vivarium is not that the same light emitted by the sun but still you can regulate the level of the UV light to ensure proper health of your pet beardies. You can purchase lightings that have UV emission in the market.
The kind of Lights to Use :
Now you know that lighting is important for your bearded dragon pet. The question is, how can you give your beardie the right kind of light or shall I say, what is the kind of light to use inside the vivarium? What are the recommended products to buy?
First of all, purchase a flourescent light that emits UVB rays. This is the basic thing to do when you set up your lighting system for your bearded dragon.
Zoo Med Company has a product called ReptiSun; the product can provide the lighting requirements of the bearded dragon in captivity. The ReptiSun has a flourescent bulb with 5.0 UVB emissions. But you can still find some products in the market that comes
in different forms like tube like bulbs and there are also products that are compact fluorescent form.
Another best light source closely the same light emitted by the sun is the combination of a visible light from fluorescent and incandescent lights paired with a reptile black light that also emits UVB lights.
The position of the light you are using must sit over the dragons basking site. It must directily face the basking stone if you have one. The UV light will shine brightly on the basking spot, when the bearded dragon feels cold; the UV light is attractive to the eyes of the beardie and will eventually go to spot to warm their body. Do not put a glass as a lighting fixture; use a screen so that the light can penetrate.
The bulbs of your lighting set up must be replaced at least twice a year even if you think that the bulb are still working. Through time, the bulb's UV emission will get slower, there will be a minimum UV light being produced. So replace your bulb every after 6 months.
You need to be very knowledgeable of the bearded dragon's lighting set up or else your dragon will reach the maximum years of its life span. Good luck!
