Useful Home Teeth Whitening Ideas
People who have stained teeth often have a poor self-image. They lack the confidence to put up a smile or talk to others. There is, however, no need for anyone to suffer in this manner as there are many home teeth whitening ideas that offer simple solutions.
Know the cause: Strong teeth rarely get stained while on the other hand, weak teeth that are already damaged get stained easily. The first step is usually to find out the cause and then correct it. Excessive consumption of tobacco, sugar and acidic foods or drinks are major causes. Drinking water containing high levels of fluoride when the teeth are still being formed is another cause. Such foods and drinks should therefore be taken in moderation or done away with altogether especially before going to sleep.
Cleanliness: Proper brushing of teeth is important. Toothpaste that is not harsh on the enamel and a fairly soft brush should be used. This ensures that the enamel is protected from further harm.
Salty water: A safe way of killing bacteria that are harmful to teeth is to gargle salty water. This keeps the mouth free from germs that stain teeth.
Strawberry paste: Rubbing teeth with strawberry fruit paste is a safe and fantastic home teeth whitening idea. The fruit does not have to be made into a paste. It is just as effective when used whole.
Walnut: The bark of a Walnut tree is also effective when used to whiten teeth. Rubbing it on the teeth kills harmful bacteria, cleans the teeth and makes them whiter.
Hydrogen peroxide solution: A solution of water and two or three drops of Hydrogen peroxide destroys bacteria and makes teeth whiter. Gums may, however, react negatively to it.
Calcium: Eating Calcium-rich foods is a must if you wish to maintain a sparkling smile. Calcium fortifies teeth and makes them healthy. This prevents them from getting stained easily and is usually the first line of defense.
Taking plenty of water: When bits of food remain stuck on teeth for a long time, they can provide a breeding ground for bacteria that destroy teeth. Taking a lot of water is important because it washes away such food.
For those with stained teeth, these are safe ways to get them sparkling once again. Other methods such as using Lemon and Baking soda may not be good for the teeth. Juice from Lemon contains a lot of acid and Baking Soda abrades the teeth. One should never forget that discolored teeth are often already weak and utmost care should be taken when using home teeth whitening methods so as not to damage them further.
