Does anyone know where to get Thomas the Tank Engine bedroom accessories cheap? (UK ONLY)?

I am revamping my 1 year old sons room with his favourite character in the hope he will want to sleep in his own bedroom at last! Im looking for bedding, curtains, lamp, chair, rug, wall stickers, etc. anyone know a good place to get things like this cheaply? Thanks, Claire

Ebay. Charity shops. Carboot sales. Also see if there`s a freecycle online in your area. I`m in leeds west yorkshire. They give stuff away they don`t want. Go to freecycle leeds - check it out. Then see if you have one in your area. Someone who`s had a thomas bedroom might be doing it up and getting rid. Good luck.

SCTV, 9/23/78 - THE BOB HOPE DESERT CLASSIC

Will Hope Materialize into Success or will Despair Prevail?

When a friend and I were laid=off simultaneously from the same firm, we did what any responsible person would do, started a massive job search.  Thousands of resume's and countless fruitless interviews later, we sat down to discuss our situation.  Here we were, two men in our mid-50s, who had done everything we were told would lead to success when we were younger: graduated from college, maintained a strong work history and were civic-minded.  Yet society didn't seem to care whether we had played by the rules or not.  We applied for jobs we were qualified for: nothing; jobs we were overqualified for, and were continually told so by prospective employers.

Rather than allow depression to overtake our lives, during the discussion mentioned earlier, the topic of self-employment came up.  After kicking around a few ideas, I mentioned to David that I had developed a game concept 15 years ago but the normal demands of providing for a family had caused me to abandon it.  David was impressed with the concept, which led to 3 months of refining the game before we sought imput  We received high praise from professors of the Gaming Development Department of a prestigious university.  Next we visited countless people in the industry , always finding them impressed with the originality, suspense and fun the game provided.

Our enthusiasm resulted in us dipping into our limited savings to have the product manufactured.  The concept of the game lent itself to almost any subject matter.  Since we were fans of President-elect Obama and knew many others were, we chose his family as our subject matter.  My wife was amenable to the idea since the feedback had been so positive.   It seemed almost envitable that we were on our way to becoming successful entrepreneurs.

Finding a manufacturer proved to be much more difficult than we had anticipated.  It was 3 weeks before Christmas and most already had a backlog of work.  The few who didn't wanted to charge prices much higher than the quotes we had received from those who could only handle our business after the holidays.  Eventually, after many weeks, we found a firm that was in our price range and also promised delivery a week before the Inauguration.

Well, that wasn't to be.  Our completed games arrived in March.  They had done a wonderful job so the delay was overlooked.  We immediately began marketing it to retailers and our hard work resulted in placements in 15 stores.

But we were also getting ominous signals that we didn't allow to dampen our spirits.  More and more retailers were telling us that the market for President Obama memorabilia was drying-up.  But we had something unique and original, not a picture on a plate or a t-shirt, so our confidence wasn't shaken.

But it should have been.  Our website was producing little results, flyers weren't working and over and over we were hearing that stores couldn't get rid of the Obama items they already had in stock.

Since we were a business we couldn't collect unemployment and soon finances became a daily topic of discussion in my home.  I had always heard that most marriages ended because of money, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that would happen to me.  Yet it did.

David's life is as mangled as my own but we carry-on, often soliciting in residential areas.  Of course a job search is once again a part of our schedule.

This is a cautionary tale.  But as President Obama says, "keep hope alive."  There's really no other choice.
