Creating Cocktail Recipes with Vodka
One of the best liquors for creating cocktails is vodka. This is because it does not have much flavor on its own, so it mixes very well with a wide variety of other ingredients. Origins of Vodka

Different Vodka Grades
There are many different grades and brands of vodka just as there are with other liquor varieties. Typically liquor stores place the cheaper brands on the bottom shelves and the more expensive brands on the very top ones. Choosing something in between in the middle level is a good way to make a selection and avoid opting for the most expensive or ending up with a cheap inferior grade.
How to Flavor Vodka
The flavor of vodka can easily be changed by adding additional ingredients to it. Common additives include herbs, ginger, peppers, apples, lemons, peaches, limes, cherries, and strawberries. No sugar is added in the vodka infusion process.
Once the ingredients are placed into the vodka, the mixture is stored in the dark for the process to take place, which is known as steeping. It takes approximately a month for the vodka to absorb the flavoring. The longer the vodka is stored with the ingredients, the more flavoring and aroma the vodka will absorb.
Eventually the solids should be removed, and the infused beverage should be strained to remove all remaining particles. This method of flavoring vodka at home is referred to as infusion, while the flavored vodka products sold commercially are referred to as "flavored vodkas."
Cocktail Glass Temperature
Avid cocktail enthusiasts enjoy their cocktails in a glass of the proper temperature. A cold cocktail should be served in a chilled glass while a warm beverage should be served in a warmed or room temperature glass.
To chill cocktail glasses, simply place them in the freezer or use a portable chiller that contains ice. Warm water can be poured over a glass for serving warm cocktails.

Simple Vodka Smoother Cocktail
Fill a cocktail glass with ice cubes. Add 4 ounces of cranberry juice cocktail and 2 ounces of orange flavored vodka. Stir mixture. Garnish glass rim with a slice of orange along with a lemon wedge. Pierce fresh cranberries with a skewer and place into the beverage. Enjoy!
