Marketing Your Business With Custom Window Decals

Windows are in their homes, their vehicles, their workspace, their favorite place to shop and countless other places in between. Windows are generally empty, untapped space ripe for the picking when it comes to your advertising needs. Custom window decals are perfect for this venue as they can be as permanent or as removable as you need and wish them to be.

Decals can be placed on the inside of a window if desired or they can be placed on the outside. Depending on the method of printing and your budget, they can be pretty much any size or shape and can have as many or as few colors as you like, all within reason of course.

Decals placed on the outside of a window are printed the way most custom decals are printed, with a back side adhesive. They can be laminated or unlaminated, depending on your preference and need for weather or abrasion resistance. They can even be domed with polyurethane if you desire.

Stickers placed on the inside of a window are slightly more complicated to print if they require a face side adhesive. This means the design is reversed before being sent to the printing press, so it effectively prints backwards. It is printed on a clear substrate and then laminated with a white (or other color) substrate or laminate material. Once the substrate liner is removed and the window decal is placed on the inside of the window it no longer appears reversed and is completely readable.

Window stickers are generally printed on clear, shiny silver or gold, brushed silver or gold, and white substrates. The most common and most versatile substrate to print on is white because it can either be left white or ink can be laid down on top of it to create almost any color. The silver, gold, and white substrates (colored with ink or not) will always have a clearly defined edge. Clear substrates camouflage the edge of the decal. Its important to consider what look you prefer when designing your decal.

When designing a window sticker, also consider how dark or how light the space behind the window decal will be, especially if the decal will be on a clear substrate so that only the design shows prominently. If the area behind the window decal will be dark, it is best to keep the design light so that there is enough contrast to make sure the window decal is visible. If the area behind the window decal will be light, the design is best if it's dark. A dark design against a light background space will provide contrast so that the window decal is visible.

Most people who view your decal will be viewing it while in motion. Keep this in mind when designing your artwork. Keep the design simple and make sure your message is clear. The viewer needs to be able to determine what you are saying within a matter of seconds. Text is best when it is clean, simple and bold. If graphics are used they should be uncomplicated without a lot of intricacy.

Window stickers are a great way to utilize empty window space, which there are endless amounts of. Design and choose your specs for your particular message and target audience. Keep the design simple so the viewer gets your message while they are in motion because they won't always be able to stop and stand still to read your window decal. A well designed decal will offer endless options for effectively getting your message out there.
